Developed by Elaine Satterfield-Buice, RN, this innovative bandage system was first used in a desperate attempt to save a patient from above-the-knee amputation. The patient, a 57-year-old woman with diabetes and severe leg ulcers, had not responded to traditional treatments over a span of three years. Elaine combined her medical expertise and inventive thinking to create a novel wound-healing environment—blending neurostimulation, oxygen therapy, and a custom-made dome dressing to improve circulation, deliver oxygen, and protect the skin.
Nurse Elaine Satterfield-Buice fashioned the makeshift bandage using a surgical glove and materials at hand to create a working device. Within six weeks of daily application, the wound fully healed, stunning the medical community and saving the patient’s leg.
This real-world success became the foundation for ClearikonFLEX™, a bandage born out of care, innovation, and the relentless drive of a nurse determined to make a difference.
